TELEVISION WORK

sexhunter

A long long time ago when the men who launched "Loaded" magazine were still little boys getting teeny weenie hard on's over Page 3 girl Samantha Fox, the original founders of Lad culture were living the dream for real. The Sex Hunters  first found notoriety way back in 1992 when more than three million viewers tuned into to watch the highly acclaimed Channel 4 documentary called “The Sex Hunters” It featured the antics of 6 Northern men living in a caravan on a holiday camp in Newquay Cornwall. It shocked and outraged the nation. The 40-minute Short Story special made compelling viewing and was voted “Pick of the Day” by  TV critics in many local and national newspapers.

The Sex Hunters is recognized as the Sergeant Pepper of reality TV documentary's and was one of the best program's of the 90’s (The Bill based an entire episode around it) I spent the rest of the decade appearing on all the major daily chat shows including “Kilroy” “The Time And The Place” “Thursday Night Live” and the very first “Vanessa” where he went on to become the Godfather of Laddism and a very unlikely role model. youtube.com/Geordie1992sex

I became the face on the opening credits of Channel 4’s popular series “Top Tens” and did a short run as a magazine reviewer on UK Livings “Summer Show and also made regular appearances on the “Sex Show” for the same channel.

In 1996 I wrote and starred in a fake TV Documentary called "The Bouncers" it was only screened once on a now defunct obscure satellite channel. It also starred Pete Roberts who appeared with me on the "Lads On Tour" video and it also starred Sophie Allisstone who at the time was appearing on Bruce Forsyth's "Play Your Cards Right" as one of Bruce's "Dolly Dealers"

During the very successful football tournament “Euro 96” which was held in England I was commissioned to write a daily diary for The Sun newspaper covering the event and also released a video diary of the tournament with fellow lad Pete Roberts called “Lads on Tour”.

I've performed over 1,000 times with live bans all over England including The Marquee, The Venue, Dingwalls, The Rock Garden and toured Europe and the USA. Performed on Granada TV’s ‘Get It Together’ four times. Supported bands including The Beat, The Buzzcocks, The Belle Stars, The Troggs, Bad Manners. Along with my  brother Graham I recorded the unofficial Newcastle United Cup Final single in 1998, which was boycotted by the club, and wrote a single for TV presenter Floella Benjamin called "Don't Touch Me"

MUSIC

In the summer of 1976 I  first appeared live on stage in a band called the Kidda Band  Back then Bingo was King. Live bands played second fiddle as Mr. Tom Bola called all the shots and the blue rinsed set danced to the tunes of the devil. But thanks to five young men from the black stuff, all made of the right stuff, that was all about to change.

By the end of 1977 the Kidda Band had ripped through the street with no shame like a hurricane and force fed the starving youth a diet of electrifying turbo charged rock punk and pop. Camphill Estate was the home of one thousand Geordie families who had emigrated from the North East of England to the Midlands to work in the mines. Built on a slag heap and cast in the shadow of an everlasting coma, the local kids never knew what hit them when the Kidda Band bomb shell exploded. Soon the pubs and working men’s clubs were brimming with heaps of slags dancing around their handbags in jam packed halls with sweat stained walls and as the brown ale flowed into rivers of blood. The hopeless, who were tired of living in hope, were suddenly set free to do what they wanted any old time. The Kidda band were the original Trash City Rockers. Deep down they always knew they would never find that pot of gold at the end of the rock n roll rainbow, but with a passion and zest they bopped ‘til they dropped, shocked around the clock, committed treason in the sun and had fun fun fun ‘til their daddy drove the coal truck away. Armed with a superb live show and a sack full of snap, crackle and pop songs, for two triumphant years the Kidda Band created a black and white striped riot all of their own. If you missed the revolution first time around then check out their CD "Too Much Too Little Too Late" It offers a unique insight into the Kidda Bands glorious past. If, however, you were lucky enough to ride the roller coaster and live the dream first hand this brilliant compilation will soon have you tearing down memory lane and up out of your rocking chair in no time.

With the incredible surge of interest on the Internet for late lamented "The Kidda Band" who played up a storm in Nuneaton and the surrounding areas between 1977 and 1981 I was surprised to find that our  first single "Everybody Knows" is now selling on e bay for upwards of 200 English pounds. I'm shocked that the single, which only sold a handful of copies when first released, has now turned into a collector’s item.

So if were  in the Warwickshire area between 1977 and 1981? and had a mullet like hairstyle, tight drain pipe jeans, and, in the case of many teenage girls, a bit of a crush on one of the band then for once a trip down memory lane could earn you a pretty penny.

If you bought The Kidda Bands first single, "Everybody Knows" now’s the time to haul it out of the loft and get your self logged on to E Bay. Your loyalty to the band could just about to be repaid.

As  crazy as it may seem thanks to the Internet  the band now has an international fan base and their tracks and singles regularly get played on American mid western radio shows. An American all girl band called The Baby Shakes have even covered one of my old songs "If Looks Could Kill"  Their CD "Too Much Too Little Too Late" has also sold very well in Japan Germany and the rest of Europe.

So, if you remember the heady days of The Kidda Band's heyday and sweated away with the best of them at Camp Hill working men’s club, The Cherry Tree or the 77 club then why not log onto the bands official website.

In the late 90’s I  was founder and editor of the now defunct Internet e-zine 18tilidie.com that regularly attracted 50,000 hits a week and was according to Time Out “A people’s e-zine which is true to the original archaic and spirit of the early days of the World Wide Web”

NORMAL JOBS

In the early 70's I  became a silk screen printer and was responsible for the Silk Scarf craze that were worn on the wrists of pop Music fans and Football Hooligans alike. I've  also been fired from Harrods and the BBC two of England's finest establishments.
